TOURNAMENT

APRIL 12, 2025

Life is full of competitions. Whether we compete to grab somebody's attention, to be a friend of someone, to have better grades in school, or promotion at work, we compete!

We're faced with this whether we like it or not. It is part of life.

WHY AM I TELLING
YOU THIS?

"Because we have a tournament coming up and I am encouraging everyone to participate."

There are only a few reasons why a student won’t participate in a tournament.

  • Fear of Making a Mistake!

  • Not Feeling Good Enough to Participate!

  • Fear of Losing!

  • Was Told “I’m Not Competitive” and I Believed that Now!

We need to understand that it is okay to feel these things. Whatever we feel is okay. How we face these feelings and what we do about them is the lesson that we MUST ALL LEARN, sooner than later.

We need to have a mindset that trying and giving our best at all times is what matters in life. Most of the time, it will be enough to get us through. But if for some reason, it’s not, then we take the lessons learned from it to make us stronger and better.

With that kind of mindset, we can then know that the next time we come around with similar challenges, we’ll be better equipped on handling them!

Experience builds increased confidence!

Building confidence in the process of facing our fears or stepping out of our comfort zone is a very important lesson YOU WILL GAIN from participating in this event.

Stronger confidence is what a lot of people lack in this world. It is built over time and eventually creates a better version of you. it will affect every aspect of your life.

Your support in HELPING YOURSELF or your child learn this very important lesson of competition in life is where it starts!

JOIN US in this Tournament made with that in mind!

Note: You may be facing financial difficulty and can’t pay for the event at this time. If that's the case, please let us know what we can do to help. We can postdate a check or make a payment plan to make sure that you don’t miss out on this great opportunity because of this situation. We are here to help!

Founder's Message

Dear Parents and Students,

Competition is not for everyone, but you will never know what it's like to be in one unless you experience it for yourself at least once in your lifetime.

As the Master Instructor of Martial Arts International, I personally feel that all martial arts students should experience competing in a tournament. Although I don't focus on getting you ready to compete in Olympics, it is still my responsibility for my students to experience this part of their martial arts training. This is why we host these in-house tournaments - to give our students the experience of healthy competition, sportsmanship, and camaraderie in an environment with people they are familiar with.

Why attend this Tournament?

  • It is a great opportunity to learn more about competition, rules, judges, and the martial arts tournament world - a definite must-experience for all students!

  • With all the training you have been doing, it's fun to come in and test the skills you have acquired in a safe and friendly environment. You can choose the event you want to participate in, from showing your combinations to performing forms, point sparring, padded weapon sparring, and more!

  • It is safe, fun and there will be no politics involved since this is an in-house tournament.

  • Lil Dragons, beginners and intermediate will only have 3 competitors in each division.

  • Having to compete in a tournament and getting a dated and labeled medal to remind you of it is something that you will cherish and be proud of forever ... even if you never compete again!

  • Most importantly, the life-long lesson of giving all you have no matter what the outcome is probably the most important lesson you will get out of this competition!

I highly encourage you or your child to experience this exciting event and understand healthy competition's value ... in martial arts and in life! This tournament will do just that. Your martial arts journey continues as you write every chapter of it!

Adult Students:

The biggest challenge we face as an adult is the comfortability of where we are. My Grandmaster used to tell me "Comfort Zone is a Dead Zone". We have worked so hard and have the experience to decide what we feel comfortable doing and what's not. I understand this but I am glad that you decided to take this martial arts journey with me. By enrolling in the program, you already stepped outside of that comfort zone. Trust the process as you grow in the arts and you truly see that martial arts are more than just what you really signed up for - in and out of the Dojo! I appreciate everyone's support in helping our students get the most experience in their martial arts training!

Dedicated to your success in the arts and in life,

- Grandmaster J. Melegrito
